Access-Himalaya

Access-Himalaya is a small, yet vital company, without delusions of grandeur, believing that small is beautiful, and also entirely appropriate in this little jewel of a Kingdom. We are able to make all our guests feel at home here in Nepal, thanks to our personal approach, the fruit of over 25 years of hands-on experience of caring for clients on treks and expeditions. We specialize in carefully planned and tailor-made holidays for small groups of people in both the better and lesser known areas of our country, and it is our aim to introduce clients to the 'real' Nepal - something which we believe can only be achieved by a totally Nepalese company.

Our Staff

All our staff members are Nepalese, comprising for the main part an extended Rai or Kirat, family. It is our policy to ensure that our guides are properly trained and Government-licensed, with a tested knowledge of all aspects of trekking, including first aid, health and hygiene, as well as cultural and ecological issues.

Our Responsibility

Our principle of smallness allows us to adhere closely to the ideals and aims of eco-tourism, encouraging respectful interest in the people and their cultures, without overwhelming their villages and towns, without disturbing the fauna and the flora , and without harming the unique landscape of Nepal. This principle helps us to limit the impact of our trekking on the environment and to ensure that our groups take away nothing but photographs, leave nothing but footprints and kill nothing but time.

Our Costs

As a Nepalese company, centred in Kathmandu, we are able to avoid the high costs of trekking companies based in Europe or USA, where high expenditure on business accommodation, advertising and staff salaries must be passed on to the client; thus our holiday costs are significantly lower than those of our competitors.Additionally, we do not employ foreign trek leaders, as we feel that there is no better guide than a locally experienced, English-speaking Nepali.

Our Group Size

We prefer to take groups with a maximum and manageable size of 12-14, not only to lessen the impact on the environment, but also to encourage good-natured friendliness on trek and around meal tables! However, as always, there may need to be exceptions to the rule on occasion.

Our Clients and Ourselves

All our clients share the special advantages of a spirit of adventure, an open mind, a sense of humour, a love of nature and humanity, and a wide variety of interests. After enjoying the exotic hustle and bustle of Kathmandu, they all wish to experience life 'far from the madding crowd', surrounded by the untamed and natural beauty of the Nepal Himalaya, and they appreciate the opportunity to meet people of other cultures, with customs very different to their own. Our clients comprise students and teachers, families and friends, as well as individuals and unrelated groups, of all ages, brought together by a common interest. We value greatly the many friendships which are formed through a holiday with Access-Himalaya - and, as we say in Nepali, "MAYAA NAMAARNU HOLAA!" - "Do not let love die"
